FAQ
Short answers. For the full brief, see the Agent Field Guide.
What is a puzzle walk?
A self-guided walking tour built like an escape room. You go to real landmarks in a city, solve the clue waiting at each one, and unlock the next stop and the next piece of the story as you go. No guide, no group, no fixed start time — you play on your own phone, at your own pace.
Will someone meet us at the start, or at the stops?
No — and this is worth knowing before you go. The walk is entirely self-guided and runs on your phone. Deja Clue City has no staff, hosts, marshals or helpers at any venue. Anyone on the street claiming to be from Deja Clue City and offering to guide or help you is not part of our team; please ignore them. All genuine support comes only through the walk itself, support@dejacluecity.com, or our WhatsApp.
What do I need?
A charged phone with mobile data, a pen and something to write on, and comfortable walking shoes. Water and sun protection are a good idea for a daytime walk. Full packing list in the Field Guide.
How long does it take?
There’s no time limit. Time doesn’t count against your score at all — it only breaks ties between teams that otherwise scored the same. Go at your own pace and stop for breaks whenever you like.
What if I get stuck?
Every puzzle has three tiers of hints built in, each revealing more than the last — the third tier gives you the answer outright. You can also skip a stop; you’ll still get the intel that stop would have given, so the story continues, but a skip costs more on your score than a hint does.
How does scoring work?
Your score is based on how you solved each stop — using fewer hints and no skips scores higher. Playing just for fun? Then don’t worry about the score at all — it really matters only when a group splits into teams and competes. Competitive teams appear on a public leaderboard, so if you want a top spot, solve clean.
What team size works best?
One ticket covers 1 to 5 players — it plays great solo, as a couple, or as a family with kids. Up to 5 phones can share one ticket at the same time, and any of them can read clues, take hints or submit answers; progress and score are shared by the whole team. Bigger groups should split into separate teams and race each other on the leaderboard.
Can I resume on another phone?
Yes. If your battery dies or you just want to hand the phone to a teammate, use your ticket code on the Resume page to pick up exactly where you left off.
Can I get a refund, or reschedule?
We don’t refund for a change of mind, but we’ll happily reschedule you for free — just email us. Please use your walk within 48 hours of purchase; if you can’t make that, or the weather turns, contact us to reschedule or extend. Genuine billing errors or a failure on our side are always put right with a full refund. Full details on the Reschedule, Cancellation & Refunds page.
When should I go, and what about closures?
This is a completely outdoor activity — pick a time when your city’s weather is pleasant. Holidays and closures rarely get in the way: puzzles use exterior, publicly visible information, and if anything specific applies to a trail, its field guide will say so. Opening hours only matter if you want to go inside an attraction.
