Seine Clearly: The ARIA Calibration
6 calibration sites · ≈ 2.5 km (to be confirmed on a test walk) · 1–5 players · Champ de Mars → Trocadéro, 7e / 16e
ARIA has read 38 petabytes of books, papers and museum catalogues and has never once looked at a real city. You are her Human Calibration Partner for one last field session before she is deployed at kiosks across Paris. At each site she makes a confident, specific, wrong hypothesis — and you correct her with evidence you can see. For how the walks work in general, see the Field Guide and FAQ.
Coming soon
Want a taste now? Try the free Eiffel stop — the four stone riders of the Pont d’Iéna, a few minutes’ walk from the tower, with no ticket needed.
Where it starts, and getting there
The trail starts on Place Joffre, at the École Militaire end of the Champ de Mars, and finishes on the Trocadéro terrace facing the Eiffel Tower. Every site is an outdoor public statue, monument, bridge or esplanade — no special access needed. Nearest transport: École Militaire (Metro line 8) for the start; the finish is beside Trocadéro (Metro lines 6 and 9).
Best time to walk
An outdoor, weather-dependent walk. Morning or late afternoon gives the best light and the thinnest crowds — the Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro are among the busiest spots in Paris. Avoid major event days, such as Bastille Day fireworks crowds, and avoid walking alone after dark.
Short on time, or walking with small kids?
Use the in-app “Skip this stop” button as you pass a site: you still get ARIA’s model update for it, so the story never breaks. (A recommended shorter route is being decided.)
Food and breaks
Every site will suggest a nearby café or place to rest. (Being chosen on a site visit.) Carry water: there are fewer casual food stops on the route itself until the Trocadéro.
Opening hours
None to worry about — the walk never goes inside a building. All six sites are always-open public space.
Free field pack
Spoiler-free printables for the trail, including a cut-out version of the Chaillot decoder wheel, will come with your ticket. (In preparation.)
Route map
ARIA tells you where to go next at the end of each site, and you tap “We’re here” when you arrive. (The interactive and printable maps are in preparation.)
Ground rules
Several sites are memorials — the Monument des Droits de l’Homme and the Polish-combatants memorial near the Fontaine de Varsovie in particular — so please be quiet and respectful. Photos are fine; don’t block other visitors, and follow any police or security instruction near the Tower or the Trocadéro. No Deja Clue City staff are present at any stop.
Language
The trail is in English. Your browser’s translate feature works on the trail pages, but the translations are automatic and not checked by us — ARIA’s deadpan may not survive them.
