Paris · Stop 6 of 6 · 1951
The square behind the Palais de Chaillot, ringed with cafés, with a bronze marshal on horseback looking across the river at the Tower. Our Paris walk ends here, two marshals apart from where it began.
The square remembers two dates in its name: a French victory at the Trocadero fort in Spain in 1823, and the Armistice of 11 November 1918. Foch was appointed to coordinate all the Allied armies in March 1918; the Armistice was signed in his railway carriage at Compiègne. He rests at Les Invalides.
Metro Trocadéro, lines 6 and 9, exits onto the square. Everything here is public and open at all hours.
