Bengaluru · Stop 2 of 7 · 1980s
A working post office that looks like a ministry. The GPO sits on Raj Bhavan Road between the Tejas jet and Vidhana Soudha, and most people walk past the façade without looking up.
Before the internet, this was the state's principal communication hub: the physical letters that fuelled early modern Bengaluru's commercial growth all passed through here. It remains the city's main post office and a heritage exterior on one of its grandest roads.
Five minutes on foot from Cubbon Park Metro along Raj Bhavan Road. The building is a working post office: go in during counter hours, or admire the outside at any time.
